Laika is one of the most well known animals to have traveled to space. Born a stray in Moscow, she went through space training and was the first animal to orbit the Earth. Sadly, she did not survive her trip aboard Sputnik 2 as it was not designed to be retrievable. Though the exact circumstance of her death is unclear, it was known she would not survive the flight before she launched. Laika's sacrifice paved the way for safe space travel, and this pin honors her.
