One of the most famous animals to have traveled to space, Laika was born a stray in Moscow. She was the first dog to go through space training and the first animal to orbit the Earth. Sadly, she did not survive her journey aboard Sputnik 2. Laika paved the way for safe space travel for animals and eventually that included humans!
